Expatriates have been advised to learn the language of the country that they want to move to as soon as possible.
Stefano Lucatello, senior partner at the International Law Centre, said that it is "imperative" to start learning the language as long before you move as possible.
Mr Lucatello explained the benefits: "Firstly, it will endear you to the Spanish ,Italians, French, Portuguese. People appreciate the fact that you try. It's imperative that you do that.
"Also, you may have a translator, but you don't know if that translator is impartial, is he beneficial to you? Or is he on somebody else's side?"
The advice follows suggestions from A Place in the Sun Live presenter Amanda Lamb that Spain, France and Portugal are the top three destinations for people buying property overseas.
