Those travelling to and from Spain can enjoy a comfortable and convenient start to their trip, with the addition of a new route to Bilbao from Portsmouth International Port.
The
Brittany Ferries service began on March 27th and offers a direct link from Britain's best connected cruise and ferry Port to Northern Spain. The 'Cap Finistère' has been refurbished to a high standard to commemorate this new service, where journey times are expected to take around 24 hours.
Mike Bevens, Brittany Ferries Group Passenger Commercial Director comments: "Bilbao has forged a reputation as a destination in its own right in recent years, not least due to the iconic Guggenheim Museum and Norman Foster-designed metro system. As the numbers of air travellers from the UK to Spain have declined, we've witnessed a surge in demand for direct UK Spain crossings. Our customers welcome being able to relax on a comfortable and spacious cruise-ferry and the freedom that having their own car brings."
For expats living here in Spain, and those wishing to explore further afield, Bilbao has an excellent network of motorways enabling easy access to the rest of Northern Spain.
The route operates twice a week, and complements an existing
Brittany Ferries service to Santander. This is the company's first new port destination in 25 years and it means that passengers will now have the choice of four crossings a week to Northern Spain from Portsmouth International Port. Martin Putman, Port Manager, said: "We are delighted that there is now even more choice for passengers heading to Spain this year. We know that people love the convenience of starting their journey in Portsmouth. The new Brittany Ferries route combined with the Port's brand new terminal and passenger facilities should ensure a great start to any holiday."
