Spain's Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT) has ruled that those living in apartment blocks of flats can have have a shared Wifi ADSL connection.
The application was brought to the CMT by a Barcelona entreprenuer, who was the landlord of a number of properties and wished to offer his tenants competetive internet access as a service.
The CMT granted the request and ammended the law accordingly, but has made three stipulations with regards to make such shared connections permissible :
1. That the network can only be accessed by residents of the apartments and not the general public.
2. The service is not for profit.
3. The network operator is to responsible for all aspects ofcustomer service.
If these three conditions are met, the developer will not be required to be entered in the registry of operators with the CMT.
