Spain's La Caixa Bank has installed contactless ATM cash machines in three cities across the country.
Clients using such cash machines only need to wave their debit cards next to a scanner and then enter their PIN number in order to withdraw cash or carry out other transactions.
This new, contactless technology has been developed by Fujitsu, and the ATM's have so far been sited in Barcelona, the nearby city of Sitges and in Palma de Mallorca. La Caixa, who have 8'000 standard ATM's in Spain, making it the country's largest network, has plans to expand its network of contactless ATMs across the Catalonia and Balearice regions over the next few weeks.
The new ATM's only allow cash withdrawals at this moment in time, but La Caixa has plans to extend the operations that they will soon be able to carry out.
