Expatriates considering building their own dream home in Spain might be reassured to hear that planning approvals have been on the rise.
The latest figures from the government show that approvals rose by seven per cent in January compared to the same month in 2010.
However, the recovery is not certain just yet, since January's approval figures were down 15 per cent on December's.
Mark Stucklin of Spanish Property Insight said that this year is likely to mark "the bottom of the cycle for planning approvals".
However, he stressed that this view is "just a hunch" but that things will settle down over the next couple of years.
