Spain's Minister for Development, José Blanco, spoke to the press earlier this week, saying how Spain would stick to its schedule to take high-speed trains to the Portuguese border, but acknowledged that there were some difficulties, due to the Portuguese side of the project having problems.
The Minister emphasised the importance of the project, and that it would be devastating if the hard work and investment undertaken by the two countries to date ended up going nowhere.
Lisbon was still waiting for authorisation from the Portuguese Court of Auditors' to commence work on the stretch of high-speed line between Poceirão, some kilometres south of the capital, and the Spanish border.
