Spanish Senators commit to promoting bicycle useage

 

A motion put before the Spanish Senate on yesterday, to encourage the use of bicycles in city centres, has been unanimously approved.

The motion called for an improvement in road saftey and other facilities, in order to work towards less pollution, congestion, fuel savings and a healthier lifestyle for many commuters.

The proposal was the brainchild of the PSOE Senator for Cádiz, Antonio Hurtado, who apparently arrives to work at the Senate every day on his bicycle.

The Senator told his colleagues in the upper chamber of the Spanish parliament that cycling to work would help them to give up smoking and would also encourage them to do more exercise.
