AENA - the Spanish Airports Authority, has confirmed that they have sacked the first air traffic controller, following the disruption to Spanish airspace caused by strikes towards the end of last year.
The employee in question was based at Santiago de Compostela, where two other employees were based, but have subsequently been transferred to other centres in Granada and Almerķa following disciplinary procedures.
The Wildcat strikes of December of last year started at the Santiago facility and rapidly spread to other air traffic operations in the country, causing widespread disruption and eventually forcing the government to declare a 'state of alarm' - the first time post-Franco - and resulting in the Military eventually taking over operations.
