A court in Madrid is investigating the Botin family over accusations of income tax fraud at the request of Spanish anti-corruption prosecutors.
The Botin family is one of the wealthiest and most influential in Spain, and has controlled Banco Santander, Spain's largest bank and the eurozone's largest by market capitalization, for over one hundred years.
The National Court has confirmed that it has agreed to a petition to investigate Banco Santander chairman Emilio Botin, his brother Jaime, and their the ten children that they have between them.
The investigation focuses on income tax returns and other tax documents that were filed between 2005 and 2009.
