Elena Salgado yesterday ruled out the risk of any of the country's struggling regions facing financial collapse, telling SER radio station in an interview : "I don't think there is a risk of collapse. In fact many regions are presenting their quarterly accounts and are well on the road to reducing their deficits, while others have to make an additional effort."
The Minister for the Economy was responding to an earlier statement by the PP's President of Galicia, who commented how a number of regions face the possibility of financial collapse by the end of the year.
Tensions between the PSOE central government and the regions have grown since the May election where the PP oppositions took most of the regions away from the ruling Socialist.
The Minister Chaired a meeting on Wednesday with regional financial chiefs where they agreed that their respective deficit shortfall will be slashed to 1.3 % in 2012 and 1.1% in 2013.
