Spain has now received the nod from the EU to be able to proceed with plans to put certain restrictions in place on Romanian citizens seeking work in Spain.
Immigrants in Spain number 4.93 Million - around 10% of the total population - and a report earlier this year showed how Romanian citizens numbered 840,682, followed in second place by the Moroccans with 757,809.
The country was one of the first countries to welcome Romanian citizens into Spain when they entered the EU four years ago.
Spain is seeking to limit the influx of Romanians looking for work in the country because of the exceptionally high rate of unemployment in Spain at the moment, and the resulting strain that is placing on the already frail economy, but stresses that the measure is just temporary.
Romania's government has been given two weeks to request an annulment of the EU's decision to approve Spain's request.
