Spain's Minister of Land and Sustainability, Lluís Recoder, has proposed contracted charges at Barcelona's El Prat airport and reducing them at Girona and Reus as a means of resolving the long standing conflict between Ryanair and the Regional Government of Catalunya.
"We are confident that we will reach a solution," he commented when asked about the issue by members of the press.
He went on to say how one part of the solution should be "the privatization of El Prat, which will mean an increase in airport charges and, if the Government can manage Reus and Girona airports, we can ensure the lowering of charges at these airports to bring a resolution with Ryanair.
"The airport will provide a new framework agreement with Ryanair," said the Minister, who has also demanded that the Irish low cost airline honours its contract until December 31, a date by which El Prat airport will have been privatised.
The went on to say how any inconvenience to commuters and tour operators would be so minimal it would be 'Insignificant'.
