AENA - The Spanish Airports Authority - has reported an increase in passengers flying into Almeria airport over recent months.
The Authority noted that the number of foreign passengers visiting the region has grown steadily since the end of March, when compared with the same period for 2010.
The increase may be attributed to the bust summer period, but also an increased number of flights arriving at the airport from new destinations. The number of passengers from Europe increased 17.9% in April, 9.6% in May, 17.6% in June and 6.3% in July, which coincided with the Easter to Summer period, but also with the introduction of new flights to Iceland, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic.
During July alone 46,198 passengers flew internationally and 35,354 flew domestically, the second consecutive month that the airport has welcomed more foreign visitors than national.
