The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines has revealed how there are still 127 Filipino visitors to the recent World Youth Day who are still in Spain.
Earlier today the Bishops announced how 30% of the 427 official Episcopal Commission on Youth delegates who travelled to Madrid had still not returned home. In addition to the 427 ECY delegates, a further 1'500 Filipinos attended the event.
Filipino participants to the 2011 WYD were issued Schengen Visas from the Spanish Embassy which allows them to remain in the country until mid-September.
At previous WYD events, some delegates failed to return to the Philippines after attending the 2002 WYD in Canada and 2005 WYD in Germany.
Father Conegondo Garganta, Executive Secretary for the Conference of Bishops, has appealed for the delegates to return home in order not to compromise relationships with the Spanish Embassy in Manila.
