Latest changes to the law in regulating the country's online gaming industry should help boost the ailing economy.
Aside from the creation of new jobs, the measure is expected to create €137.5 million in new revenue for the country next year alone.
Spain's first online gaming licence was awarded to Casino Gran Madrid, who have been authorized to offer a variety of games which include roulette and poker, and they engaged Playtech, the well-known software provider, to assist them in implementing their website.
The new law comes at a time when many countries are looking for new ways to generate income through taxes and make the economies more stable, which is why other EU countries are observing closely and are expected to follow Spain in making amendments to their online gaming laws.
In 2010 alone there was an estimated 370,000 who regularly gambled online.
One of the major obstacles that politicians have been concerned about is how the operators of such site will be able to recognise and prevent under age players and protect those with a history of gaming addiction. However, the increased revenue promised ensures that the politicians are unlikely to impose laws that are too restrictive.
