Thousands of teachers representing a number of regions from across Spain are planning to hold demonstrations in protest over cuts in spending on education.
In many cases the regions have cut the number of teaching staff and increased the working day for the remaining staff to cover shortages.
The first protest planned has been held by over 30'000 Galician teachers representing six different unions, in the centre of Santiago de Compostella.
The regions who have been effected by such cuts, and where teachers are planning to take action are Galicia, Navarra, Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalucía, Murcia, Valencia, Cataluña and the Canary Islands.
Meeting between teaching unions and the regional authorities are still on-going in Extremadura, the Baleares, Castilla y León, Cantabria and La Rioja, but there has been no reported conflict in the Asturias, the Pais Vasco or Aragón.
Demonstrations across the country have been planned for September 14 and 20 and October 22.
