Yesterday's explosion and fire at the nuclear facility in Marcoule, in south-eastern France, is being monitored by the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council.
The company who operate the facility, which does not have a reactor on site and is a treatment for low radioactivity waste, reported that there were no radioactive leaks as a result of the accident.
The facility is located 280km North-East of the border with Catalonia, where regional authorities have activated a preventive pre-alert plan, despite the Spanish Radioactive Control Network finding no change in the radioactivity of the area.
France is currently investigating the cause of the accident, which killed one and injured 4 others, whilst ecological groups have called for greater transparency within the industry.
France is currently the largest user of nuclear energy in the world, with 59 facilities providing the country with 78% of it's energy requirements.
