14 out of the total 16 members of the local police from Valverde del Camino in Huelva have declared themselves on sick leave for 'psychological reasons.
As it is illegal for the Police Force to take strike action, they feel that this is the only course of action that they can take in protest over being unpaid for last four months.
The Town of just 13'000 residents has accumulated over 50 Million euros in debt over recent years, however the full extent of the problem only came to light when a PP administration was voted into office after decades of rule by the PSOE.
The new mayor has been left with the unenviable task of cutting costs, raising taxes and trying to keep debtors at bay, at acknowledges that there are 130 council workers who have not been paid since May of this year.
Sadly, this situation is not unusual and it can only be a matter of time before further Town Hall Employees in other regions take similar action.
