The Town Halls of Cartagena and La Union have met together with the Regional Ministers for Economy, Culture and Tourism and public works, in a bid to jointly redevelop the area surrounding Portman bay.
One of the ideas proposed at the meeting earlier today was for the construction of a luxury beachfront hotel complex to accommodate up to 2'000 guests.
The plan also proposes the provision of a "low density" development of residential properties, between 4,000 and 6,000 in number (and not 10,000 as initially planned by the Ministry of Environment and Portman Golf Company) located close by.
A nine hole golf course, together with a protected area of woodland was also included in the draft proposal.
Cartagena lies just 38 km away from the region's Corvera International Airport, scheduled to open summer 2012.
