Earlier this week a number of politically appointed Governors of the State broadcaster RTVE voted to allow themselves the right to view news content before it was aired.
The PP appointed Governor proposed the modification, with the Governors representing two other Political parties supporting the change. The PSOE Governor abstained from the vote, resulting in the change being allowed.
The move has attracted criticism from journalists, mainly for two reasons : One, because the way that the news is presented is not the responsibility of the Governors, but instead the News Editors and Executives; and Two, that the change effectively amounts to political censorship.
The PP have previously complained about the Socialist bias of a number of senior new editors at the station, something which has been strenuously denied.
The move has even been criticised by the Political Parties themselves, with the PP official party Spokesman declaring "I don't like this, supervision is not a good idea,"
The PSOE Candidate in the coming election referred to the measure as " a mistake... I don't agree with the decision and I hope the board will reconsider it."
However, it seems that some of the Governors have had a shift of opinion. A further meeting has been called for later today, which may allow for the decision to be reversed.
