The 'Indignados' protest group, who arrived in Brussels this weekend after a two month protest March from Spain have suffered a further setback.
The 150 Indignados met up with other protest groups in the city centre ahead of an official protest march, planned for October 15th, and the Summit of European leader, to be held on the 17th and 18th of October.
The group totalling some 400 protestors had originally intended to camp out for the week in Elizabeth park, on the edge of the city, however the Mayor had declared this unsuitable given that lack of running water and electricity in the park and prohibited them to set up camp. However, the mayor did offer the campus grounds of the University of Flanders which did have such facilities.
A total of 48 Protestors were arrested by the police for refusing to move their campsite - 27 of who were from Spanish 'Indignados'.
Many of the group were clearly disillusioned of the way that many of their own number had behaved on an evening when debates over the current political and economic situation in Spain and Europe had been planned "They say they want to improve the world and they've been debating for two hours about whether to sleep in the mud," said one man.
A lack of consensus resulted in part of the group moving into the campus and another one staying in the park, which lead to the arrests.
