Ryanair CEO, Michael O'Leary, confirms that the airline is looking into the possibility of having just the one toilet onboard all aircraft that it orders in future - thereby reducing payloads and allowing for additional seating on each aircraft, which could result in a 5%reduction in ticket prices.
The proposal involves the removal of the two rear toilets, which would allow for the installation of an extra six seats on each aircraft.
The airline has 40 new Boeing 737-800s on order, which should be delivered in the next few months, which will follow the current seating plan - allowing for two rear toilets and one at the front. These aircraft, together with the existing fleet will not be modified in line with the proposal, however it is expected that all aircraft ordered in future will follow the new plan.
O'Leary also ruled out the possibility of charging passengers for the use of toilets during flights.
The airline seems to base the majority of it's publicity and marketing on controversy, where it willingly hold two fingers up to it's clientele. Only last year the airline announced plans to experiment with allowing passengers to fly short haul flights standing up, which would allow more passengers onto each flight than traditional seating would.
