The sixth day of the Madrid teachers strike was attended by the majority of the 49,000 Employed in the sector, Unions reported yesterday, as protestors took to the streets of the capital once again.
Unions referred to the rally against spending cuts by the regional government as "a success," and reported that the action had affected almost all of the region's schools in some way.
This time the protestors were made up of both High school and Primary School teaching staff, with unions reporting how some 50% of all primary staff and 68% of all high school staff taking part in the demonstration.
Figures released by the region's education department told a different story: 30% of high school teachers and 12% of their primary counterparts
According to EL PAÍS', a total of 53% of high school teachers attended the march.
Over 650,000 students aged between three and 18 were affected by the stoppage, which called for the immediate reinstatement of 3,600 temporary teaching staff who were laid off at the start of the school year.
