The Directorate of the Civil Protection Volcanic Risk (PEVOLCA) on the Island of El Hierro met today and subsequently announced that they would be keeping the 'Yellow' state of alert for the Island, with a red state of alert for the community of la Restinga in particular.
This follow the weekend's activity, which saw over 100 earthquake, mostly lcated to the North of the Island at la Frontera, at average depths of 20 - 23km and average magnitudes of 2.2 - 2.6 on the richter scale.
The majority of these seismic activities were located from around 12km off the shore of la Frontera,in an NNW-SSE alignment towards the el Golfo bay off the north coast of the Island - the opposite side to la Restinga, where the underwater volcanic activity is being monitiored.Read further news stories about the El Hierro Volcano by clicking the link HERE .
