Demostrators marched through the town of Lorca in Murcia yesterday in protest over 'Political ineffectiveness'. In main this was directed towards issues surrounding local, regional and national attempts in dealing with the after-effects of two earthquakes in May of this year, but also issues surrounding the delays and mis-management of the new Corvera International Airport and the unfinished San Javier - Santomera road.
Former Minister of Defence, Federico Trillo, together with the Minister of Development, Francisco Alvarez Cascos, were criticised for their decision to expand San Javier airport with a second runway to allow for a greater frequency of flights at the airport, shared between AENA and the Military.
In 2005, even as work at San Javier was underway, the PP led regional government of Ramon Luis Valcarcel, made the decision to build a new private regional airport in Corvera.
However, both the PSOE and the PP parties were criticised, each in turn providing a number reasons as to why there had been delays to the various projects.
