Spain's El Mundo daily newspaper has reported how the Partido Popular (PP) opposition is increasing its lead over the ruling PSOE party ahead of the general elections, due to be held later this month.
The opinion poll published today shows how the conservatives would take 47.4% of the vote, compared to 30.7% for the Socialists if the election was to be held today.
The report was undertaken by the Sigma Dos research team, who surveyed 3'000 people around the country between 18th-30th October, giving a 1.8% margin of error.
The PP maintained the same percentage on an earlier poll by the same team, with 47.4% of the vote, while the Socialists fell slightly from a previously registered 31.0%. In relative terms this equates to the PP securing an overall majority with 193 seats in parliament, with the PSOE taking 117.
