Spain has cooperated with the Gibraltar Authorities by extraditing a wanted criminal who was arrested in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
The suspect, Daniel Patrick Lavin Leon, was wanted for questioning by the Royal Gibraltar Police in connection with a violent robbery which took place on the Island in December of last year, where a local shopkeeper was violently assaulted by two men.
The victim sustained head injuries during the robbery, which netted the criminals just 80 Euros.
The RGP applied for a European Arrest Warrant via Interpol, who were able to locate and arrested Levin Leon on and transfer him to Madrid pending his extradition to Gibraltar.
The accused will appear in Court in Gibraltar today, where has has been charged with Attempted Murder and other serious offences.
A Spokesman for the Royal Gibraltar Police acknowledged the cooperation and assistance provided by both Interpol and the Spanish authorities : "This is a perfect example of international law enforcement and judicial co-operation functioning at its best. It drives the message to persons suspected of committing crimes, who think they can avoid prosecution by transgressing to other jurisdictions, that they will be hunted down and put through the judicial process" .
