ULookUBook.com saw an increase in the number of Brits looking for holidays to Spain this summer. The online travel company report that holidays to Spain, especially cheap holidays to Tenerife proved popular, and the company points to figures released by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce this week as evidence of this trend.
Official figures show that during the summer months of July to September the number of tourists viviting the country increased by over 8% compared to 2010. The ministry also found that in September alone almost 6 million tourists visited the country - one of the best months on record.
The report by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Culture also showed that the Canary Islands saw a massive increase of over 20% in the number of visitors between January and September. Similarly the Balearic Islands saw an increase of more than 10%.
The data revealed how British tourists in particular favoured Canary Island and Balearic Island destination.
Ian Raine, of ULookUBook.com, commented: "This year the travel industry was in flux and many traditional holiday destinations saw a surge in the number of tourists visiting their shores. Spain in particular had a fantastic year. The country has always been popular with people looking to get away in the summer months, and this year many people returned to the country.
"As winter approaches the country will see increases in the number of people looking to getaway to Tenerife and other winter sun hotspots. Spain has spent a lot of time investing in the tourism industry and their attention to this particular sector has paid off."
