Following the 1.2 Million Euro project to extend Peinador airport in Vigo, Galicia, the extension to the car parking area has already been finished, leaving just the works to the terminal building itself to be completed.
The Project will extend the existing building from 8,700 m2 to 26.000m2, and will enable the airport to process a maximum of 4,000,000 passengers per year. The majority of the work required for this increase in capacity has been dedicated to technical non-passenger areas. as far as passenger facilities are concerned, the number of air bridges provided will be increased to 4, 2 further gates will be added, along with and 15 additional desks.
The extension to the airport is being made to both the North and South of the existing building (IE making it longer), and whilst the work to the south side is at an advanced stage - intended to be fully operational by late summer 2012, work at the North side has only recently begun and is estimated to be complete in 2013.
