Scientists from the National Geographic Institute on the Canary Island of El Hierro have recorded a total of 7 earthquakes since midnight on Sunday.
Once again, the activity was centered in the El Golfo bay area, off the coast of Frontera to the north of the island. The Intensity of the activities ranged from 1.8 to 2.6 on the richter scale, and with depths varying from 17 to 22 kms. The strongest quake was felt by local residents on the island shortly after 02.00 hrs GMT, at the shallowest depth (2.6 Magnitude / 17kms).
This follows a total of 24 earthquakes being recorded during Sunday, with the harmonic tremors being shown to continue to subside.Elsewhere, the Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias (INVOLCAN) yesterday demonstrated how the amount of Carbon Dioxide being released on the island had reached an average of 1665 tonnes per day - almost five times greater than the 345 tonnes per day under normal conditions.
This Youtube clip, posted earlier today shows a very good animation of the location of earthquake activities on the island since the recent swarmbegan back in July >>>>
