Prime Minister elect, Mariano Rajoy, met with the Unions and Businesses yesterday afternoon.
The first meeting he held was with CCOO Union representatives and CEOE employers, then meeting separately with the UGT Union, where he presented his ideas for reform of labour laws, and to encourage both sides to agree to his proposals. Rajoy has said he would like to see reforms in place when employees return to work after the Three Kings, which means that any agreements would have to be made almost immediately.
The UGT seemed less than enthusiastic about the proposals, speaking of how further reforms is not the way to address the crisis, and that the Government will impose the reforms whether any agreement is found or not.
For their part, the CEOE association of Employers has called upon the PP to issue a decree to impose the required reforms and to reduce the costs involved in making employees redundant.
