The Provincial court in Segovia, Castile y Leon, has made a ruling which awards €12,400 in moral damages to the vicitim of identity theft.
The claim for financial compensation was upheld as a result of the depression she suffered in an identity theft case, where the two accused offenders created a fake profile on a social networking site using the identity of the claimant.
They uploaded a number of pictures of her to make the profile credible and used the account to post offensive comments about her friends. As a result of the fake profile, the offended party was isolated from her friends, which caused her to suffer depression which lasted for 13 months.
