Storms and strong winds in the north of Spain have forced the cancellation of 11 flights and a further 8 diversions at Bilbao, San Sebastian and Vigo, airports according to AENA.
Bilbao remains the worst affected airport, with strong wind shear, which has resulted in the need to cancel a total of 9 of the scheduled 111 flights today, with a further 4 flights being diverted to alternative airports.
At Fuenterrabia airport, San Sebastián, 2 routes have been canceled or diverted, whilst at Vigo airport a total of 3 flights have been diverted.
Furthermore, Eurocontrol, the European Aviation Safety Agency, warns that there may be further cancellations in accordance with European Airspace regulations regarding procedures to apply in cases of strong winds.
Eurocontrol specifically mentions Manchester, London-Heathrow, London City, Dusseldorf and Rome as being the airports of departure which are likely to be effected by possible diversions or cancellations.
