The regional spokesman for the UPyD party, Rafael Sanchez, has commented how work being carried out on the departure lounge at Murcia's San Javier airport is unnecesarry, due to it's imminent closure to make way for the new international airport at nearby Corvera in a few months time.
"The Ministry of Development, through AENA, should explain what the scope of these works and why they are being undertaken when it has been announced that San Javier will stop serving as a civil airport once Corvera becomes operational " he said.
The UPyD spokesman criticised the move, believing that, especially in a time of serious crisis and economic difficulties of the public accounts, "we must be particularly scrupulous over spending."
He went on to say how it would be "inexplicable and outrageous to go ahead with such expensive works in a building that is going to stop working a few months later. It would be another case of irresponsible waste of money by the PP."
Sanchez has requested a full explanaition to clarify whether there was any real need for the works, and if not, the reason for allowing the works to proceed.
