Following the Partido Popular's resounding success in the November general elections, they have mangaged to maintain a lead over the PSOE opposition in recent opibion polls.
Acording to a recent survey undertaken by the Barometer of the Sociological Research centre (CIS) last month, the PP currently have a 14.7% lead over the Socialists. The PP has only fallen 2 percentage points since being voted into office, despite the introduction of some unpopular and hard-hitting reforms.
The PP had a popularity rating of 42.7%, with the PSOE taking 28%, just 0.7% below their popularity at the general election. The minor Izquierda Unida and the UpyD parties both saw slight increases in popularity.
As far as the induvidual members of the government are concerned, who were graded out of 10 points, just three Ministers scored a 'pass' with more than 5 points : Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon (Minister of Justice) gets the best votes: 5.41 points out of 10; Soraya Saenz de Santamaria (Deputy PM )5.08, and Ana Pastor (Minister of Development) with 5.05.
By comparison, the PM scored just 4.55 points in the poll, and the new leader of the PSOE, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba 4.25 points.
