Supreme Court to review 'Ley Sinde'

Supreme Court to review 'Ley Sinde'

Spain's Supreme Court has agreed to consider a complaint brought by a group representing web users against the government's so-called 'ley Sinde' anti-download law that aims to protect copyright material.

The Solicitor General now has 10 days to present his arguments over why the law should be left intact.

Víctor Domingo, president of the Association of Web Users, who brought the complaint, explained that his group does not agree with many clauses in the law, including giving the government the right to decide when it can close down a website if it considers that it has violated the statute. Domingo says the Sinde Law goes against many prior decisions already handed down by Spanish courts. "It is important that this law, which we consider unfair, is revised."
