Spanish daily newspaper, El Pais, has reported how the country's hospitals are putting themselves at risk of losing their supplies of drugs and other medical equipments due to escalating bills of around 6 Billion euros.
In many cases the debts have gone unpaid by the regions of Valencia and Andalucia, who manage their own Healthcare budgets, as far back as two years.
A number of suppliers have already stopped providing pharmaceuticals to the regions over concerns that the debts are showing no signs of being addressed, according to Humberto Arnes, director of the pharmaceutical industry's lobby group.
