The Compromís opposition party in the Valencian cortes has criticised the bills run up by Castellon airport for their consumption of electricity, which has been costing upwards of €7'700 per month.
The Generalitat has defended the expense by saying how, after 20.00 hours, only the bare essential services use electricty - such as minimum lighting levels in order to maintain the safety and security of the site.
According to the Compromís party, since the airport opened one year ago, the financial cost of the consumption of electricty at the airport now stands at €92,400 - despite not processing one single passenger.
The Spokesman reminded the regional parliament that a number of public buildings in the region went without heating over the course of the winter to conserve fuel and energy bills, whilst no such cuts applied to an empty airport, and whilst the region is still squandering millions on an empty airport with an uncertain future.
