Ryanair have confirmed that the cut routes at Alicante's El Altet airport will remain in place after having lost their latest appeal over the forced use of airbridges at the airport.
This decision was made by Alicante's Mercantile No.3 Court yesterday despite the airport agreeing that passengers could embark aircraft on foot five years ago.
Ryanair believes the cuts have resulted in traffic at Alicante decreasing by 10% in Q1 of 2012, resulting in 200,000 fewer passengers and estiumated to reach a loss of 1.5 Million by the end of the year.
The airline maintains that the enforced use of such airbridges would make it impossible to turn a flight around in the customary 25 minutes, and result in the additional cost to them of 2 Million euros per year - both of which would impact on ticket prices.
The Spokesman for Ryanair, Stephen McNamara, said the airline "is disappointed that common sense has not prevailed."
The airline now has 20 days to appeal the decision.
