Cinco Dias has reported how the ongoing hostilities between the SEPLA Pilots Unions and Iberia Airlines has resulted in a total of around 100 notification being issed to the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The complaints were made by pilots and crew members due to the creation of the low-cost subsidiary, Iberia Express, resulting in a detriation of saftey and operational standards over recent weeks. Some of the notifications involve aircraft being made to fly after a fault had been reported, or of pilots being requested to fly beyond their scheduled hours.
It has also been reported that a heightened state of tension exists between pilots and crew members working for Iberia and Iberia Express, with insults regularly being traded on open radio frequencies. It was further alleged that a number of conversations had been overheard between crews exchanging tips on how to sabotage the scheduling of flights to cause delays.
