The lesser known family member of Spain's 'El Gordo de Navidad' Christmas Lottery draw is the 'El Niño' Lottery.
Traditionally drawn to celebrate the Three Kings Fiesta on the 6th of January, it was introduced in 1941, almost 130 years after it's big brother, which is drawn on the 22nd of December.
Although the prize fund is much smaller than El Gordo at €840 million compared to €2.54 billion, the jackpot pool still stands at an impressive €120 million.
What's more, there are around 8 different chances of winning a prize with each ticket purchased, and there is a 1 in 3 chance of winning some kind of prize, compared to a 1 in 6 chance with El Gordo.
Although this year's El Niño marks the first time that a winnings tax will be applied to all lottery winnings over the sum of €2'500, sales are still brisk as thousands of Spaniards hope for a little luck to bring in the new year.
