Those observing news concerning the sale of Castellon Airport will probably be aware that the self-imposed "Deadline" to approve the purchase deal expires at the end of March .
Or if you prefer, we should have confirmation of this on the 1st of April. Surely the date can't be a coincidence ?
Early in January the concession holder of the Airport, Aerocas, announced how they had received an offer of 200 Million Euros from a Libyan-Spanish Investment group. However, after factoring in the costs to be incurred by the Generalitat Valenciana to finalise the infrastructure requirements, it would result in a net loss of some 67.5 Million Euros to the taxpayer.
Originally Aerocas announced that the decision to accept or decline the offer would be formally declared "by the end of February", however, perhaps unsurprisingly, at the end of February this was extended to the end of March.
Since then 3 things have happened which "Could" result in this deadline being swept under the carpet :
1.) Revelation of there being a 2nd interested party to submit an offer to buy the airport.
2.) Revelation that neither offer was accompanied by a Bank Guarantee , which, according to Aerocas themselves, would make both offer "Invalid".
3.) Last weekend's news that Carlos Fabra, the President of Aerocas, resigned his position due to his being called to stand trial over tax avoidance, bribery and corruption allegations.
Hands up all those who expect the 1st of April to pass by without any activity or statement.
