Earlier this week a board meeting of Aerocas Executives saw the agreement to progress with the award of the contract for the operation and management of Castellon Airport to SNC-Lavalin.
The news was confirmed in a statement issued by the Generalitat Valenciana, who are 99% shareholders in Aerocas - the concession holder of the facility.
The statement explained how the Canadian company has met with all requirement in order to operate Castellon Airport for a period of 20 years, paying €25 Mln in total (capped at €4.5 Mln per year) to the Generalitat once the facility sees 1.2 Million passengers per year.
SNC-Lavalin will also be responsible for completing the final phase of certification, specifically for the infrastructure and training of technical personnel, in accordance with the requirements of laid down by the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Castellon Airport - which celebrates it's 3rd anniversary after being officially opened on March 25th - has still not welcomed one commercial passenger flight.
