Spain's public deficit - not including town halls - fell to 4.04% of GDP in the first 8 months of the year, down 11% from the same January - September period in 2013.
That was a contraction from the 4.26% booked for the first 8 months of the year.
The government aims to cut the public deficit to 5.5% of GDP for 2014, from 6.3% last year.
