Spain Approves Grant for Register Against Illegal Fishing

The Spanish government has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, for a €250,000 contribution to the World Register of Ships to combat illegal fishing Unreported and Unregulated (IUU).

The creation of the World register of fishing vessels was raised in the session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) in 2012, and has been relaunched in 2014 giving each ship a single, non-transferable worldwide number, to identify and track all refrigerated fishing vessels and support vessels operating in the various oceans.

It will mean the state of operation and seaworthiness of these vessels will be transparent at all time.

The purpose to create a global register of vessels is to increase transparency and traceability of vessels and their activities and fishery products through the exchange and dissemination of information, essential in the fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU).

The Spanish Cabinet has also approved the voluntary contribution to Group Green Growth (Green Growth Group ) od € 8,700.

This group was created last year in the European Union, in order to prepare the Framework for Energy and Climate Change to 2030.
