Mariano Rajoy today strongly denied allegations that he and other members of the ruling Partido Poular have been recieving secret handouts over a number of years.
"I need only two words: it's false," the Spanish Prime Minister announced in a televised address to party leaders who were meeting today for an extraordinary meeting to discuss the allegations that have been reported in the press over the last few weeks.
Rajoy said that he would publish the full details of all of his tax declarations on the Partido Popular's official website to clear up the scandal, after newspaper El Pais published what it said were ledgers maintained by party treasurers to register cash contributions from business leaders that were then distributed to party leaders.
