Madrid has been the city to win the most in this year’s Christmas ‘Gordo’ lottery, taking both the first and second prizes.
This years first prize winning ticket gave 300,000 € for each of the 10 €20 shares which were all sold from a Business just street away from where the Gordo is drawn every year
The second prize went to the Madrid suburb of Getafe, and gave 100,000 € for every decimo.
The third prize, worth 50,000 € a decimo was split between Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, El Prat de Llobregat, Puig-Reig and Barcelona city centre areas, but some of the series was also sold in Madrid, Torrelavega in Cantabria and Corvera in Asturias.
Cataluña was the region to get most of the two fourth prizes, worth 20,000 € a decimo. Most of those decima’s went to Barcelona, but some series also were sold in Valencia and Madrid. The other fourth prize ticket saw all sales in Reus, Tarragona.
Rather annoyingly, a corrupt Spanish ex Mayor was also lucky with the draw. Eugenio Hidalgo, who has been found guilty of town planning irregularities when he was Mayor of Andratx on Mallorca, is known to have won a fifth prize .
As in previous years Barcelona and Madrid were the Luckiest cities, however these areas are also home to the largest volume of ticket sales.
