Cowboy Builders to set up in Spain

Long running UK format Cowboy Builders is to be remade in Spain after Warner Bros International Television Production struck a deal with RTL-owned Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia.

European production group Eyeworks, which was recently acquired by Warner Bros, will produce the series, marking one of the most significant tie-ups between the two companies since the deal.

The Spanish version of Cowboy Builders will be the fifth international adaptation of the Ricochet Television format, which has previously been sold in the US, France, Belgium and Sweden. Astresmedia operates a slew of channels including terrestrial networks Antena 3 and La Sexta as well as a slew of digital channels.

Cowboy Builders was originally created for Channel 5 in the UK and is set to air its tenth series next year.

Andrew Zein, senior vice president, creative, format development and sales for Warner Bros. International Television Production said: "Cowboy Builders has been a hit show for C5 since its launch five years ago and in that time it has also travelled well internationally. Viewers enjoy seeing the bad guys being brought to justice alongside a glamorous home makeover."

Carmen Ferreiro, entertainment director at Atresmedia added: "This programme is a format that fits very well in Atresmedia's entertainment catalogue. It presents a perfect combination of helping people solve their problems whilst at the same time fighting back against corrupt behavior."
