Regional government propose amnesty for 11'000 illegal properties

Mon 7th Mar 2011

The decision announced by the Regional Government of Andalucia has attracted criticism over it's intention to legalise more than 11,000 illegally built houses in the Malaga province.

Ecologist group GENA-Ecologistas en Acción, have spoken of what they call ‘serious consequences' arising from the so-called town planning amnesty. They have spoken of this surmounting to nothing more that the regional governments support of criminal activity and giving a ‘blank cheque for building on non-buildable land'.

President of GENA, Rafael Yus, commented how the fact that the new decree promised by the government will legalise those properties previously deemed to be illegal, and that it essentially amounts to their failure to uphold the law.

The Ecologists believe that the new decree proposed by the regional government contradicts the LOUA Andalucía ordination law, insofar as recognising land for agricultural or forestry use, in order to justify having a property on rustic land.

The General Secretary of the regional governments opposition has criticised the proposal as being both ‘late and bad' and describes their management of the properties effected by this as absurd.
