Ryaniar have once again proved to be the critic's favourite following a shambolic display of passenger care during one of their flights from Sevilla to Pisa in Italy yesterday.
The plane was delayed due to the failure of a compressor, however, the repair meant that the engine could not be started which in turn meant that the air-conditioning could not be turned on.
The pilot explained in only English and Italian, that passengers must remain on the aeroplane whilst it waited on the runway for the repairs to be completed, so it would not lose it's allocated place in the departure queue.
Without air-conditioning, fresh air or ventilation the temperatures reached almost 50c and caused a number of passengers to faint and an 18 month old baby to suffer the effects of dehydration.
The passengers waited for two hours until somebody opened one of the cabin doors to allow some fresh air to enter the cabin, which activated the emergency exit mechanism which then caused a mass exodus off the plane.
A waiting ambulance treated the baby and a number of other passengers, who complained that the crew handed out only a few bottles of water, which were given to the children. AENA confirmed that the scheduled departure time for the flight was at mid-day, however, Ryanair did not ask for the truck to return the plane back to the terminal for a further 45 minutes. The truck also had to be rented from a third party, which caused further unnecessary delays to the departure time.
The flight finally departed 5 hours late at 17.50
